For this month of Wine Club we are focusing on wines that pair well with fall foods and the upcoming holidays.
2012 Chinon Cuvee Terroir, Charles Joguet (Loire Valley, France)

If you have been looking for an earthy, Old World red, you now have it! Charles Joguet's Chinon is Cabernet Franc sourced from 30-year-old vines. Cab Franc, typically lighter and less tannic than its relative, Cabernet Savignon, is a fantastic choice for autumn. This particular wine smells of fresh cut roses and strawberries. This young wine’s medium body, medium acidity and soft Old World flavors will pair well with a variety of foods such as poultry, pate and goat cheese.
2012 Westrey Pinot Noir Justice Vineyard (Eola Amity AVA, Willamette Valley, Oregon)

We LOVE the Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley that has made Oregon wine famous! Since 1993, Westrey winemakers Amy Wesselman and David Autrey have been setting the standard for top-quality Oregon Pinot. Their Justice Pinot from the highly acclaimed 2012 vintage has great fruit and balanced acidity. It is medium-bodied with dynamic flavors of strawberry, bitter cherry, pomegranate, and white pepper. This wine would be great with Thanksgiving dinner or with a variety of salmon, pork, and duck dishes. Enjoy now or cellar for up to five years.
2013 Palamà Negroamaro Arcangelo Rosato Salento IGT (Puglia, Italy)
100% Negroamaro, 12.5% Alc. In-store Price $12
This small vineyard wine is from the Puglia region in southern Italy. This rose made from the negroamaro varietal (100%) and is much less dry than the typical French roses. Light bouquet on the nose is met with beautiful flavors of blood orange, citrus and strawberries. Pairs well with grilled foods, salads, cold seafood and young cheeses.
2011 Vega, DFJ Vinhos (Duoro, Portugal)
Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, 13% Alc. In-store Price $11
This is a customer favorite for Missoula Wine Merchants. This wine is rich and full-bodied while also being very smooth. Delicious intense fruit with a complex and elegant finish. Vega is aged in new French oak barrels for 3 months and then aged in bottle a for a minimum 3 months after bottling. This wine is great for enjoying with or without food due to its lower acidity and relatively low tannic finish. This wine will pair well with any meat dish, meals with fattier fish, spicy food, Mediterranean cuisine and cheeses.
2012 Clos Des Fous, Grillos Cantores (Santiago, Chile)
100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Alc. In-store Price $18
CABERNET SAUVIGNON from the mountains of Chile. When was the last time you tasted a quality Cabernet Sauvignon for under $20. (This fine wine costs only $18). Flavor is more Bordeaux than California. Starts with an earthy nose (think wild mushroom and cedar). Color is dark and clear. Black fruit -- berries more than plum. Tannins and alcohol are well-balanced (14% alcohol). This smooth drinking wine is unconventional and ready to drink now. 2-3 years of aging would not go amiss. Pair with traditional red meat dishes -- anything from meatloaf to grilled steak to beef Stroganoff. Serve at room temperature. Allow to breathe for at least an hour. Enjoy leisurely with a meal and good company.

2013 Armas De Guerra Blanco (Bierzo, Spain)
85% Dona Blanca, 15% Godello, 12% Alc. In-store Price $12
Vinos Guerra, founded in 1879, is the oldest winery in the Bierzo region of Spain making wines with 50+ years old vines grown organically in dry-farmed vineyards. This wine has bracing aromas of orange zest, quinine, ginger and chalky minerals. Juicy, dry and focused, offering lively citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a touch of white pepper. The wine’s finish echoes a gingery note. The traditional food pairing for the Blanco is seafood, especially the local Galician shellfish specialties like scallops, mussels, clams, lobster, crab and oysters. Also great with salads or on its own.
